Which OBD adapter do you need?
BimmerInspect works with three kinds of adapter. Here is how to choose one for your BMW or MINI and your iPhone.
Bluetooth
The simplest option. A quality ELM327-compatible Bluetooth OBD-II adapter that states iPhone support. Plug it in, open the app and pick it from the list.
Wi-Fi
The adapter creates its own Wi-Fi network. Join it from your iPhone’s settings, then connect in BimmerInspect. Allow Local Network access when iOS asks.
ENET
A wired connection for compatible BMW models. You need an ENET cable and a suitable Ethernet adapter for your iPhone.
What to look for
- ELM327-compatible, with iPhone or iOS support stated by the maker
- A reputable brand. Cheap copies often skip commands the inspection needs, so fewer checks can run
- For Wi-Fi and ENET: an adapter that keeps a stable connection while the engine runs
